Constructed from a slightly sleeker last than your typical desert boot, with a fine nubuck leather body, slim rounded laces, and way more eyelets than usual.
This is Rachel Comey‘s cosmopolitan take on a classic desert boot.
Though she’s better known for her womens footwear and apparel lines, Rachel Comey’s brand started out, in 2001, as a mens label. Shortly thereafter, women began buying the clothes in small sizes at Barneys, and so in 2003, the womenswear wing— now the brand’s focus—was created.
They finally launched a full blown website this year where you can witness the extend of her designs. In fact, the last few times I was in the Broadway showroom I couldn’t help but notice a curious set up which they periodically use as a background on this new website. Tucked around the corner from an elevator which opens directly onto the room, facing a tall brick wall was a camera set on a tripod -recording and diffusing live – the content of a video projection. The effect is one that indirectly encapsulates the mood in the showroom and broadcasts it live on the site. I thought it was brilliant.
